How exciting that you’re visiting my page! You might have already come across the quick introduction on my website, but I’d like to take the time to tell you a bit more about myself in this blog.
So, this is not going to be a story on how I had a magical experience falling in love with photography. Nope, that didn’t happen to me! But then how did I get into photography? Let me tell you!
When I was 17 I graduated from High School and made my big dream of living in the USA happen. I had the most fantastic 10 months living with a host family and attending High School in America (as you know it from the movies) before moving on to university here in the Netherlands. This gap year is the reason I purchased my first camera; I wanted to capture my adventures so I could share them with my family and friends back home.
Did I come back with the dream to become a photographer? Also, nope! In fact, apart from when on holiday, I didn’t even really touch my camera until I moved into a studio all by myself in Amsterdam Noord. After having lived with 20 (!!) other girls in a big house, I suddenly had a lot of alone time.
I wasn’t familiar with the neighborhood I had moved to, so I went out to explore a lot. At some point, I started bringing my camera with me. I actually enjoyed looking at my surroundings through a lens – trying to get the best angles and finding that perfect light.
After practising my skills on random objects for a while, my sister volunteered to have her pictures taken. This is where things started to fall into place. I asked a couple more people to model for me and before I knew I had requests coming in! I really loved photographing people, so I decided to make portrait photography my main focus.
I received a lot of positive feedback on my work, which was very motivating. I realized that I was actually getting better and better at this photography thing, and it was the perfect way to get my creative juices flowing!
Over the past years, I have gained so much experience through collaborations and I have grown both as a photographer and person. I can honestly say that photography is one of my biggest passions and I couldn’t be more thankful that I’m well on my way to turning my hobby into my profession.
I will continue developing my own style and experimenting with photography and hope to be able to keep you updated through this website in the future – so stay tuned!
